Big Time Sport Fishing is pleased and excited to announce that beginning on September 1, 2005 we will be offering exclusive, all-inclusive sport diving packages aboard the MV Swell. In March this year, Capt. Al Spilde joined our company and has taken the position as vessel master. As has more than 25 years od experience working on the coast with extensive knowledge of dive sites around Vancouver Island and coastal B.C. waters. The vintage tugboat M. V. Swell has been lovingly lengthened and rebuilt to the highest standards. She has six deluxe double staterooms each with its own private head and shower providing 12 guests with the ultimate luxury and comfort. M. V. Swell's extensive refit and remodeling has provided her with all of the modern equipment, electronics and safety features found on most vessels, yet she remains the charm and nostalgia of yesteryear.
Our guests will enjoy first class chef prepared meals and will dine in the beautifull salon, richly finished in african mahogany and native hardwoods with excellent views out the ample windows. After a delicious meal they can enjoy a glass of whine while unwinding on the back deck in the hot tub. To compliment the great amenities aboard the M. V. Swell is a brand-new 1500sqft. building on a 75' steel barge which goes anywhere the tugboat travels and is easily reached off the stern. The building contains fresh water wash-down, a heated dry room with individual lockers, air tank compressor, tank and weight belt storage's, our ships store, a hydraulic crane and docks. Divers will enjoy one of the finest vessels and most complete facilities available anywhere with the capability to move to the countless dive sites along the coast. Our lodge is actually a floating facility that changes locations, following the natural salmon migration routes to offer the best fishing throughout the season. And, of course, aboard our luxurious refitted tug, M. V. Swell, you are free to chase your dream catch wherever it may be.
Bring only some warm clothes, gloves, socks, and maybe a few hot weather items, including swimsuits and/or shorts for the hot tub. Emily's store is fully stocked in case something is forgotten. All foul weather gear, including floater coat, rain pants and boots, is provided for your comfort.
We take pride in meeting the highest safety standards and hiring only the best fishing instructors in the industry. As our guests know, the instructors job is to teach the basics of fishing and safety on the water, as well as instruction in location, depth, speed, bait preparation, hooking then landing the fish.
Our instructors go beyond the basics to ensure that everyone has an incredible time on the water and comes away with some new knowledge about fishing and the history of the area.
Big Time Sport Fishing's guests report daily sightings of Orca and Humpback whales, Dall porpoises, seals and majestic bald eagles that inhabit the area. Whale channel is home to the kermode bear, also known as the white spirit bear, a species of black bear with a white coat that can weigh up to 250lbs. This is the only area in the world where these rare and endangered bears are found.
